✅ In Africa, BOTSWANA decriminalizes homosexuality and thus fights the frequent physical violence against LGBTQI persons in this country.

✅ Since 1965, same-sex relationships in Botswana have been punishable by up to 7 years in prison. The country’s High Court ended this on Tuesday 11 June 2019. An anonymous person, whose initials LM is known, was behind this request and was strongly supported by LGBT associations across the country.

✅ « This is not only a victory for Botswana, but also a victory for all of Africa,» Neela Ghoshal, a researcher with the LGBT division of the NGO Human Rights Watch. «This victory is a game-changer, and brings hope to persons after the recent disappointments.» The decision comes just weeks after Kenya refused to repeal laws criminalizing homosexuality.
