20 US states want to oppose unrestricted detention required by the US  Homeland Security Department.

This US Department wants to end a 1997 Court Judgment, called « FLORES, » requiring federal authorities not to detain children over 20 days. The actual US Administration believes that the « FLORES » Case Law is out of date in the current migratory context, and hopes that this 20-day limit will be lifted in the next two months.

The 20 states objected to the initiative want to « protect children from the irreparable harm caused by illegal and unnecessary detention, » said California Attorney General Xavier Becerra. Human Rights Organizations also want to take the Case to Court.

✅ A Democratic State can not resolve to throw innocent children in jail and to sacrify their childhood. Migrant Children can not be a « political weapon » to win elections.

✅ Le Département Américain de la Sécurité intérieure a indiqué la semaine dernière vouloir mettre fin à une décision judiciaire de 1997, dite «FLORES », imposant aux autorités fédérales de ne pas maintenir en détention les enfants plus de 20 jours. L’administration Trump estime que la jurisprudence «FLORES  est dépassée dans le contexte migratoire actuel, et souhaite que cette limite de 20 jours soit levée dans les deux mois à venir. Les 20 Etats s’opposant à cette initiative souhaitent «protéger les enfants du préjudice irréparable causé par une détention illégale et inutile», a commenté Xavier Becerra, Procureur Général de Californie. Des organisations de défense des droits humains souhaitent également porter l’affaire devant la Justice.

✅ Un État démocratique ne peut pas se résoudre à jeter en prison des enfants innocents et sacrifier leur enfance.⁣ Les enfants de migrants ne peuvent pas servir « d’arme électorale » pour gagner les élections.
